Google launches a universal agent in Gemini, starting with businesses
Google introduced an agent in Gemini that completes tasks instead of only answering. It works across Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira and company databases, and businesses get it first.
The agent gets its own work account with an email address, can be tagged in chats or sent files, and every action is written to an audit trail. A tasks inbox shows how it planned the work, what it delegated and which code it ran. It supports the MCP standard and can use third-party models, starting with Claude.
Companies can set spending caps and routing between models. Early testers named by Google include On, Shopify and PayPal. Consumers will get the agent later.
What it means for companies
The big players confirm the direction: an agent as a colleague with its own account, permissions and audit trail. For smaller companies, agents connected to their own systems are becoming normal, not an experiment.
